Objective of Minimum Support Price
The Minimum Support Price (MSP) is a central government initiative aimed at benefiting farmers by setting a guaranteed price for various food grains. To ensure farmers benefit from the MSP, the government procures paddy and coarse grains of fair average quality (FAQ). In Maharashtra, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) acts as the “Nodal Agency” for the central government, with implementation carried out by two state agencies: The Maharashtra State Co-operative Marketing Federation in non-tribal areas and The Maharashtra State Co-operative Tribal Development Corporation in tribal areas.
NEML (the agency) registers farmers producing paddy and coarse grains, and the entire procurement process is conducted online. The district supply system oversees the overall management of the process. Capital expenditure for this scheme is funded from the department’s Personal Ledger Account (PLA), with reimbursements received from the central government after submitting the final accounts. Additionally, the central government has declared the Minimum Support Price for the 2023-24 season.
